Year 2 Roald Dahl Day

Year 2 Roald Dahl Day

Year 2 had a fantastic time last week learning all about Roald Dahl and engaging in many exciting activities based on his books!

In the morning, we made dream catchers just like in the BFG!

In the afternoon, we experimented with sweets like Willy Wonka and even designed and made our own cookies to take home!

After, we experimented with creating new marvellous medicines like George; we watched them fizz, pop and explode!

School Council

School Council speeches took place last week and voting took place for today (Monday 18th) from Y2-Y6. The pupils considered carefully who they wanted to represent their class and took part in a class ballot, discussing the value of democracy.
Announcements will be made on Friday….

Welcome back to a new academic year. Keep an eye on the blog this year as we share lots of your fantastic learning and experiences.

WOW Day!

Year 2 London’s Burning WOW day!

Today Year 2 had a super time learning more about the Great Fire of London. We enjoyed baking bread like Thomas Farriner this morning! After that, we recreated the Great Fire by lining up our Tudor houses on the playground in the style of Pudding Lane. These houses were then set on fire! We watched as the fire spread and burnt all the houses down. Throughout the day we also learnt about fire safety and sang songs about London burning. Please take a look at some photos from the day and check out our TEAMS page to see some videos too!

Selly Manor Trip

Year 2 trip to Selly Manor

Our Year 2 pupils had an amazing time at Selly Manor Museum, finding out all about how people used to live in 1666. The children were able to look inside a variety of rooms and handle various artefacts from the era. They even took on the roles of famous characters from the period, dressing up and acting out the main events of the Great Fire of London. A very interesting and informative trip!

Maths Photo Competition

During this week, your child has participated in maths activities related to Coventry, including its history.

As part of this, we are running a maths photo competition ‘Looking at Coventry Through Maths Eyes’. The aim of this is to help everyone realise that maths is all around us and our local environment is mathematically rich. Using the things around us is a superb way to engage your child in talking about maths.

Over half term, we would like you and your child to take a photo/snapshot of familiar things that capture some aspect of real-life mathematics in and around Coventry.  We would like you to send your photo into us with a mathematical question (see examples below).  There are prizes up for grabs!

Please send your ‘Looking at Coventry Through Maths Eyes’ photos/questions to Mrs Walton by Wednesday 1st March to [email protected]    Please state clearly your child’s name and class.

I looking forward to seeing all your photos,

Mrs Walton

Indian Spice

On the 24th November, Year 2 had a fabulous time tasting a range of Indian food to enrich our topic of “Indian Spice”. We tasted naan bread, vegetable curry, samosas and pakoras. It was a great experience as many of us had never tried these foods before! After eating, we evaluated the food and thought about which foods we liked and which were not to our taste. Take a look through some of our pictures below:

Coundon Wedge Trip

This week we visited Coundon Wedge to explore the seasonal changes. We were also looking out for physical features of our local environment. We had great fun, despite the mud! Take a look at some of the photos from our visit below.

Mrs Stoyles Visit

Mrs Stoyles visited Year 2 to tell us all about her various trips to India. She shared photographs with us and showed us some artefacts. It was very interesting and we learnt many fascinating facts.
