On Sunday 22nd June, Coundon Primary took part in yet another Children’s Mile and it was our best turn out for a while! As usual, there was a buzzing atmosphere as over 30 schools took part in this year’s mile (with over 1000 children and hundreds of adults running, too). We took along 35 children and 22 supporting adults/members of staff. All of our runners really pushed themselves to get around the course and they had a great time!
Here are our top 3 runners, well done Patrick, Ben and Elliot!
A big thank you to everyone who joined us whether you ran or supported from the side lines, your entry fee has gone towards a great cause! A huge thank you also to the staff who gave up their time on a Sunday morning, and of course to the organisers for putting on this event each year!
On Wednesday 11th June, 35 excited Year 4 children set off for their 3-day residential trip to PGL. The coach journey was full of chatter and energy! When we arrived, we dropped off our bags, had a picnic lunch, and jumped straight into our first activities: Aeroball and the giant swing. Both were a huge hit and definitely set the tone for the trip!
Afterwards, we got settled into our dorms and headed to dinner, which was very much needed after such a busy start! We wrapped up our first day with a campfire and toasted marshmallows, which was the perfect way to wind down.
Thursday was our full day, and after a bit less sleep than we all would’ve liked, we hit the ground running. A big breakfast set us up for a morning of problem solving, where the kids had to work together and really use their teamwork and communication skills. Then came raft building, in the rain! The rafts held up, but since we were soaked anyway, lots of us ended up in the lake for a proper splash.
After a quick change and some lunch, it was on to orienteering and micro scooters. Thankfully, the sun came out and gave us a bit of a boost. By this point, the kids were knackered and begging for bed, but we still had dinner and the PGL tournament ahead. Let’s just say, bedtime was a lot quicker and quieter that night!
Friday morning came around fast. We packed up, had breakfast, and took on our final activities: a sensory challenge (blindfolded, following sounds and using touch to get around the course) and climbing, which was a brilliant way to finish. Then it was time to hop back on the coach, a much quieter journey home!
The children were absolute stars; well behaved, enthusiastic, and willing to give everything a go, even when it pushed them out of their comfort zones. They really did us proud!
On Monday 12th May, the girls took part in their final match day at the AT7 Centre. They have come so far on their football journey this year, through weekly practices and drills with Mr Boardley and Miss Valentine. Over the months, various players have attended the match days and it all came together for this final event of this academic year. Afterwards, the girls were part of a celebration event, where they all received medals and certificates.
The girls continued to give every game their all, and we are so proud of how far they have come individually and as a team. We look forward to seeing some of them next year and hopefully will have some new players to coach, too.
On Friday 4th April, Coundon Primary School had the pleasure of a visit from some musicians from Bablake Senior School. We were treated to several performances of live music from pupils from year 9 to year 13. We listened to a vocal duet as well as performances played on the keyboard, saxophone, trombone, cello and trumpet.
The children discussed the names of the instruments that were used and which of the instrumental families each instrument belonged to. The children listened in awe and really enjoyed each performance.
A huge thank you to Bablake for coming to us to perform and also a huge thank you to Mrs Dalton for organising this treat on a Friday afternoon.
Our final year 3/4 Lionesses matches were played on Tuesday 1st April at the AT7 Centre. The girls are now playing so well together as a team and have improved with each tournament.
On Tuesday 4th March, a selection of children from the girl’s football club were chosen to take part in their third match day at the AT7 Centre. Here they competed against 3 other football teams. The girls have been training hard as part of their afterschool club with Mr Bordley, and their favourite coaches; Coach Valentine and Coach Howarth, have been there supporting them every step of the way.
Our scores were as follows:
2-0 win against templars
2-0 loss against Grange farm
1-1 draw against Willenhall
All the girls played really well and were, as always, a credit to our school.
On Tuesday 11th February, a selection of children from the girl’s football club were chosen to take part in their second match day at the AT7 Centre. Here they competed in a girl’s football competition.
We played four matches, losing two and winning two. These included Broad Heath who we lost against 3-0, Finham who we beat 4-0 and then finally Christ the King, who we won 2-1 against. All the girls played really well and were a credit to our school. We look forward to playing more matches!
On Monday 3rd February, a group of children had the pleasure to take part in a Panathlon. This is a lovely event aimed at children who are not always the most confident at sports and it provides them with the opportunity to have a go in a relaxed, less competitive environment. The children had a fantastic time and were a real credit to Coundon Primary School.
Year 4 were really lucky to have a visit from our local firefighters. They learned all about fire safety and how to keep safe around the home and what to do if there was a fire. Thank you so much for coming to visit. The children had a very informative morning.
On Monday 21st October, Miss Valentine and Mrs Gray took a squad of 8 girls from years 3 and 4 (who play for Mr Boardly’s girls football club) to take part in some 6 side fixtures.
Upon arrival, we went into the sports hall, where we were greeted by the organisers of Coventry School Games and 4 guest speakers.
Kare Adenegan – GB Paralympian
Marianne Botterill – Sky Blues in the Community coach and community cohesion manager
Chelsie Giles – Team GB Judo
Amelie Perkins – Team GB Under 19 Water Polo and past School Games Coventry West attendee.
These athletes were here to discuss their journeys as women in sport and to answer any questions any of the girls had.
After that, we headed out to the pitches where COACH valentine warmed up the girls with some drills and then we played 3 of the 27 schools that were taking place. Our team have only played together on one occasion prior to the day, despite this, they worked really well as a team!
The scores were as follows:
1-1 (Coundon v stoke)
2-0 loss (courthouse green V Coundon)
1-0 win (Coundon V southfields)
Well done girls for representing the school so well. You really upheld all of our school values.
