Coventry Children’s Mile 2024

On Sunday 9th June, 33 Coventry schools (including Coundon) took part in the Children’s Mile! It was once again a lovely community event encouraging children to get active in a fun and positive way.

Before – ready and raring to run!

After – ready and raring to go home!

Thirteen of our children took part in this event (from years 3 to 6) alongside Mrs Woodroffe and Mrs Gray. The amazing and slightly competitive Miss Ferris also gave up her morning to join us and show her support! The children were great, they were full of enthusiasm and all ran the mile with Finley, Luca and Amelia making it back in the top 40 out of over 1000 runners!

Here’s a few snaps from the event. Let’s hope these children can encourage more children to be involved next year!

Orienteering

On Tuesday 21st May, a small group of Year 4 children were selected to take part in an orienteering event at Rough Close, Coventry. Other schools also took part in this activity to add an element of friendly competition in a fun environment. This event was an Olympic themed, scavenger hunt activity and was a great opportunity for the children to put into practice the skills they learnt earlier in the year during PE. A lovely afternoon was had by all.

Year 4 Culture Week

As part of culture week Year 4 are learning about the country of India. So far this week we have created colourful art on the Indian elephant, learnt about and designed Mendi patterns, used henna to create beautiful artwork on our hands and wrote our names in Hindi.

Roman Day

The children learnt about the different Roman coins, they designed their own and then made them from clay. They later painted them gold too.

The children worked in pairs to weave their owls, they did an incredible job!

Year 4 Financial Literacy Workshop

Year 4 were very lucky today to take part in a financial literacy workshop lead by Kennedy from Skint2mint and sponsored by Coventry Building Society.

The children learnt about what a want is and a need is. They also learnt about budgets.

They were given a task of identifying which items they would need to survive on an island. They were given a budget of £50 and had to select 5 items they think they need to survive.

The children absolutely loved this and learnt alot!

KS2 Christmas Carol Concert

It was a wonderful experience for pupils, parents and carers from year three to year six to hold Coundon’s Christmas Carol Concert at Coventry Cathedral. The choir were a credit to the school singing beautifully at the front, with a beautiful duet from Ruby and Eva – all brought together with pupil’s readings and a tableau of the first Christmas.

Art Gallery Video

A huge thank you to everyone for supporting the Art Gallery.

We were blown away by the quality of work and it was lovely to see and hear children’s pride in their art work. The gallery looked professional and really gave status to the children’s work and skills.

Road Safety

This morning, officers Glenn Hartwell and Katie Darby spoke to the children in whole school assembly about road safety. They discussed safety around the school and dangers of speed. They also introduced a competition – look out for more information in the Friday Focus….

4GW Maths Morning

Year 4 took part in a Maths Morning today. The children took part in lots of exciting activities and loved the moring. The looked at matchstick puzzles, money problem solving and reasoning challenges and created animals and creatures from triangles.
Here are some of 4GW’s amazing work!

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust

This morning, Sara from the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust visited school. She ran a whole school assembly about the Sherbourne River and the role of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. She also talked to the children about how we can make our world better for the animals around us. She then ran workshops with Y5 to look at rivers in more detail.
