This week we will be starting a topic about Houses, Homes and Belonging. We will be starting the topic this week by looking at Homes from the past and comparing them to our homes. We will also look at the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and use this as a focus for talking about the different materials houses are made from. This would be a good opportunity to read the story to your child at home and encourage them to retell the story to you and to join in with the repeated refrains in the story such as ‘I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down.’ Find a link below for a version of the story

The children started in their new phonics groups last week and have started to learn or reinforce any sounds they were unsure of. They are making great progress with their reading and are now using their knowledge of sounds to help them both read and write. Please continue to hear your child read every night so they are practicing the sounds and become confident with them. Your child will have reading activities in their book bag in the form of a book or ditty sheets to read as well as their reading work set on line on Oxford owl (log in details are on the front of your child’s diary). Please ensure you log on and do these activities also and don’t forget to sign your child’s diary every time they do a reading activity. Below are some videos to help with reading sounds in words.

This week in Math’s, the children will explore number bonds to 10 using real objects in different contexts and build 10 using two parts. Ask your child how many more we need to make 10 providing sets of 10 objects. There is a link below to our number bonds to 10 song to help reinforce the number bonds. The children will also work with shapes and understand that shapes can be combined to make new shapes. We will encourage the children to investigate how many different ways a given shape can be made using smaller shapes. Also, can they explore combining a given set of shapes in a variety of ways to make different shapes.

We were very fortunate over the half term break to have some glorious summer weather and hope that we get some more over the next few weeks. Please provide your child with a named sun hat in their bag every day so they have it available when the sun is shining. We also ask that you put sun cream onto your child before they come to school in the morning so they are protected from the sun. We would recommend using an 8 hour cream as we are unable to reapply sun cream throughout the day. Please also send in a waterproof coat with a hood as we know the weather can often change throughout the day. Your child should also bring in a reusable bottle containing only water and one that they can refill once they have drank it all so that they can stay hydrated.
Any problems, then please speak to a member of the team.
