Welcome to the Year 5 Blog

Year 5 had a fantastic day yesterday celebrating Mexico Day.

This week, Year 5 experienced the next best thing to travelling to the Ancient Maya destination of Mexico. The pupils enjoyed exploring key historic sites in Mayan History – it was a brilliant way to explore Mayan history!

It was a wonderful experience for pupils, parents and carers from year three to year six to hold Coundon’s Christmas Carol Concert at Coventry Cathedral. The choir were a credit to the school singing beautifully at the front, with a beautiful duet from Ruby and Eva – all brought together with pupil’s readings and a tableau of the first Christmas.
Year 5 have completed their D and T projects on Bridges – here are the final designs and creations for Dr R. Nile who set us the task. We even tested them over a tray of water – there were some casualties when tested with heavy weights.
Year 5 were fortunate to have a professional computer programmer come in this afternoon to teach us all about game design. Mr Brady (Luca’s Dad) talked to us about the skills involved in game design and then we had a go at designing our own games.

In Science, we have been learning about our solar system. This week we learnt about the distances between the sun and the planets using toilet roll to create a scale model. We had a great time!
A huge thank you to everyone for supporting the Art Gallery.
We were blown away by the quality of work and it was lovely to see and hear children’s pride in their art work. The gallery looked professional and really gave status to the children’s work and skills.

This morning, officers Glenn Hartwell and Katie Darby spoke to the children in whole school assembly about road safety. They discussed safety around the school and dangers of speed. They also introduced a competition – look out for more information in the Friday Focus….
