We have been reading the story ‘We are going on a bear hunt’ written by Michael Rosen. We have been recalling the story and joining in with the repeated refrains. We have acted out the story using props and made up our own actions.
Using bears we have played ‘Where is the bear?’ using the prepositions on, inside, under, next to and behind. You could practice these at home using a teddy bear and empty cardboard box.
In phonics this week, we will be reciting the phonemes we have previously learned – s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, e, u, r. We will also be practising segmenting and blending words which supports our reading and spelling. We are stretching the children by asking them to segment and blend words with 4 sounds, such as, ‘s-t-a-ck’ and ‘s-t-o-p’. Our new learning this week, will focus on the phonemes ‘h’ and ‘b’. We will practise writing them and using them in simple words. We have noticed children have learned some tricky words at home, which is fantastic! Keep up the good work. Try practising letter formation at home, as this will support their writing skills.
In Maths this week, we are focusing on different ways we can make 4 and 5. We will be using double sided counters and blocks to support the children’s learning. This will help to identify we can make 4 and 5 in different ways and how we can also make different shapes using 4 and 5 blocks. We will also be learning about 1 more and 1 less. We will be having lots of fun creating our own nursery rhymes, using different objects in the classroom to represent what happens when we take 1 away. Sing ‘5 green bottles’ and ‘5 speckled frogs’ at home, it is a great way bring fun into Maths.
In the wider curriculum, we will be reading the story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’, to discuss what we mean by similarities and differences. We will create our own underpants and observe how some of us will use the same colours/patterns and some of us will choose differently. This will lead onto learning how we all have similarities and differences within ourselves.
Well done to Poppy-Marie in 1DG for really settling down in the classroom and showing a positive attitude towards her learning! She is now producing some fantastic work and is proving to be quite the role model.
Well done to Ruby in 1KB also, she tries her best at all times and is a super Role Model!

First of all apologies as Mrs Walton didn’t set the battle up correctly last week, so there are no winners this week. A new battle has been set up from Wednesday 18th November to Friday 27th November. Good luck, which class will win the battle?
