TOPIC

This week we are continuing our topic of healthy lifestyles focusing on the importance of being active. We will be learning about different ways to keep active completing our topic with a sponsored event on Friday. We will also be learning about how to keep our minds healthy and finding out what mindfulness is and completing activities to support this. Can your child tell you what foods are healthy and unhealthy? Can your child practise riding a bike or scooter?

The children have worked hard this week in phonics. We have seen some brilliant writing and reading, proving how well the children are progressing. We have sent the children home with reading books that they have read in guided reading. Please continue to read every night at home as this gives your child the best support in helping them to move forward with their phonics. The continuous practise allows your child to reinforce the learning done at school by applying what they have learned to their reading. By re-reading the same text it allows your child to build both pace and fluency which will help them become a confident fluent reader. Please also remember to do your ‘Reading wise’ activities as extra phonic practise.

This week we will be learning to subtract using first, then, now stories. How much do we have first, how much are we subtracting and how many do we have now? We will be using tens frames and counters to understand what happens when we subtract an amount. We will be working out practical problems and learning how to read and complete subtraction number sentences. Using a group of toys ask your child how many there are, then take some away, how many have been taken away and how many are there now? Can your child complete some subtraction number sentences?
Friday the 19th May is wheels day so your child can bring in a bike, scooter or pram to take part in our sponsored event (see separate letter). NO electric wheeled toys please.
Library story sessions are starting next week after school. On the 16th May RMT are invited to attend and on the 23rd May RKM are welcome to attend.
Please remember to contribute to our 50p fund each week if you can. This helps us purchase different resources to help enhance the curriculum and make it more exciting for your child so is very much appreciated.
Have a great week

They will be completing hold a sentence activities using words containing the sounds from this week, with the more able writing a more complex sentence. Continue to practise the letter sounds daily before your child reads and encourage them to use the SF, FT, RTW strategies to work out unfamiliar words. We have attached some links to home learning videos for your child to watch at home. There will be no online work this week but we will be sending a book home for your child to read.

We will be using first, then , now stories to understand the process of adding. How many are there? How many more are joining them? How many do we have now? We will be using tens frames to support our learning. We will learn what happens when different amounts are added to a group. Can you make your own first, then, now stories? Count out a group of objects (less than 10 to start) and add more to the group? How many do you have now?
A Royal Celebration
On Friday 5th May, we celebrated the upcoming Coronation of King Charles III. We had a whole school assembly to start the day and learnt all about the history of this type of ceremony and what to expect.
Back in class, we made bunting! This was later put up outside ready for our picnic in the afternoon. During the morning we also had a cake sale and made some crowns to wear to the picnic.

In the afternoon, we took all of our chairs and tables outside to enjoy a ‘street party’ style picnic with our phase. We enjoyed eating in the sunshine and using the photo props!

4GW finished the day with a Kahoot Quiz. Here you can see our winning team and our runners up… WELL DONE!

Week beginning 1st May 2023
This week our topic is Superheroes.

This week we have lots of exciting events happening. We will continue our topic of Superheroes and learn more about the qualities real life Superheroes have. We will learn about Florence Nightingale and why she is a hero. On Thursday we will be having our own Superhero dressing up day. Can your child say what qualities make a real life superhero?

On Friday we will be learning about the Coronation of King Charles.

This week the children have worked hard in their new phonics groups. The children are all reading books or ditties in their groups now. Continue to practise the letter sounds daily before your child reads and encourage them to use the SF, FT, RTW strategies to work out unfamiliar words. The online book should be read quite fluently without the need to work out every word as they will have read this book several times in school. We have attached some links to home learning videos for your child to watch at home.

In maths this week we will be looking at objects and numbers and comparing which is more. We will learn how to compare and estimate amounts. Look at different containers around the house and compare which holds the most. We will also learn what Tangrams and how to make them. Can your child cut up different shapes and make a picture?

We will be completing our topic on Thursday by having a superhero dress up day. We are not expecting parents to buy super hero costumes. We would like the children to think of the type of superhero they would like to be and come dressed according to this quality e.g. they may dress in sparkles and what to spread happiness, or be cheerful and come dressed in yellow. Obviously children can come in dressed in a superhero costume that they already have but we do not want to cause you any extra expense.
On Friday we will be celebrating the King’s Coronation and you are welcome to come dressed up.
Please remember to contribute to our 50p fund each week if you can. This helps us purchase different resources to help enhance the curriculum and make it more exciting for your child so is very much appreciated.
