This week in English, the children were looking at the features of a letter of complaint. This was so that by the end of the week, they could produce their own. Well done to Kale for his hard effort in producing a letter of complaint. It was well thought out, organised and written. Thank you for your hard work 🙂

Hello Year 6. We hope that you all have had a good weekend and looking forward to the week ahead? It was lovely to chat with some of you on Teams but we would certainly like to see more of you on there. Remember if you haven not got (or have forgotten) your email address or password, please email one of the Year 6 teachers and we will be more than happy to help get you online. Thank you for emailing some examples of your work that you have covered so far. We certainly look forward to seeing more of these. Remember to also continue with the CSW Virtual PE challenges and to submit your results. Below you will find activities for the week. Have a great week 🙂
In English last week, the focus was on identifying the feature and then writing a diary entry. The focus of this week will be to look more closely at how to write a letter of complaint.
Focus for grammar this week is on Sentences, Phrases and Clauses. Download the booklet and answer the questions (in your exercise book). Remember you do not need to complete every section.
For some guided reading activities, click on the link below to access the BBC Bitesize website. The text is Percy Jackson and the Lighning Thiefby the author Rick Riordan. Listen to the extracts, followed by some of the activities that you can do throughout the week. Let us know what you think about the book. The extracts in this book will help you learn about giving your opinion and summarising information.
It is wonderful to see that you are still accessing the Fiction Express website and reading the range of books on offer as well as trying out the various quizzes. On Wednesday 10th June 2020, Fiction Express will release a new book title The Mystery of Roanoke by David MacPhail. Review the first chapter from the book and email us to know your opinion and predict what would happen next in Chapter Two.
As well as the reading focus from the Oak National Academy lessons and BBC Bitesize, there are also some reading comprehension tasks that you could also do. Below you will find a text on the Light Spectrum. Decide whether you would like to do Clouds, Moons or Stars. Read the text and then answer the questions in your exercise book. Answers have been provided so that you can check. Remember to read the questions carefully.
For spellings this week, read through each sentence and identify the word which has been spelt incorrectly and then correct it. Afterwards, look through the answer sheet and check to see if you have identified all the misspelt words correctly. If you are looking for a further challenge then have a go on the Spelling Crossword.
In Maths for this week, we would like you to continue to develop your understanding even further on fractions by accessing the BBC Bitesize website. This week, the focus will be on multiplying and dividing fractions. Try out the Maths Challenges at the end of the week.

Welcome back Year 6! We hope you had a lovely half term break and are ready to begin another week of hard work. Thank you to everyone who has sent examples of their work in, we would like to hear from more of you though so keep emailing it through to us please. We will still be on Microsoft Teams every morning from 10am-12pm to support you with any questions you have about your learning. Whether you are in school or at home you will have the same work to complete throughout the week and as before it will mostly be using Oak Academy and BBC Bitesize. We are trying to include a wide range of curriculum areas and we hope you enjoy it. Stay safe and keep in touch!
For Spellings this week you can test your knowledge of the Year 5/6 words by being able to use them in context. Each page gets progressively harder from beginner through to genius! The answers follow each page but try not to cheat and aim to challenge yourselves!
Maths
For maths this week we would like you to revisit Fractions using BBC Bitesize. The focus will include simplifying, ordering, comparing and adding fractions.
In this lesson learn about how famous Portuguese artist Paula Rego uses her artworks to tell stories, learn some basic artistic techniques and create your own artwork.
As we get closer to a date for re-opening school, we wanted to explain to you how your first day will be organised when you come. The actual date to start is yet to be confirmed but it will involve arriving between 9:30 and 10:00. We are really looking forward to seeing you and welcoming you back to school.
You will come into school via Southbank Entrance based on the time that will be given to you (Mr Mahal and Mrs A-B will be making phone calls to share these). There will be a member of staff at the gate to say, ‘Good Morning,’ and you can then walk around to the year five classrooms as the year six classrooms will not be in use. You will have to remember to keep your distance from the other children as you walk around. If at any time you are asked to line up on the playgrounds you should see markers to help you to keep your distance.
You will be working in one of the year five classrooms with around 8 or 9 other children and two adults. This will be your ‘bubble’ group (either 6Red, 6Blue or 6Yellow). The two adults will be either Mr Scott, Miss Perrett, Mr Perkins, Mrs Howat, Mrs Goode or Mrs Medley. The classrooms have been changed so that it supports us in keeping a distance between us. Here is a photo so you know what it will look like.
You will have your own table to work at and your own resource pack which will include a pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, whiteboard and whiteboard pen among other resources. You will be able to put your school bag (with packed lunch) under your table and coat on the back of your chair. When you come in you will be asked to wash your hands – remember this is important throughout the day.
We will be completing a range of work that Mr Mahal and Mrs AB have set, but will also be spending time outside in our ‘bubble’ group. When we have our morning break this will be with our bubble group. You will have lots of space as break times will be staggered. Therefore, you will get to use the whole of the year 5/6 playground with your bubble group. At lunchtime there maybe two bubble groups out at once and we will be asking you to stay to one half of the playground in your ‘bubble’ group.
Each day we will also have an afternoon PE session (hopefully the weather says as nice as it has been) but you won’t need to worry about bringing in your PE kit. Alongside our learning we will also be doing craft activities too.
At the end of the day your teacher will walk your group back around to the Southbank entrance to say goodbye.
Please remember that it is essential that you come to school at the time given to you for arrival so that you do not have to queue with other people.
Young Voices are organising the largest choir in the world on Tuesday 2nd June. You can sign up for free but check with your parents first. Happy Singing!
