Connor – for his fantastic working attitude this week across all areas of the curriculum. No matter the task, he always applies himself fully and produces work to a very high standard. Well done Connor!
Daksh as he produced a wonderful story based around a Viking invasion between Britain and Denmark. He carefully considered all of the factual information that we have been learning about in creative curriculum and crafted this into a wonderful (and brutal) story line. In addition, he included lots of elements of his success criteria. A great example of cross-curricular writing. Well done Daksh!
Ethan for his fantastic effort and attitude towards all his work. This week his story was fantastic (if a little dark and scary for Mr Scott) and his work on his algebra was brilliant. He brings a smile to the class.
Please note that we have been contacted by Mrs Turnstall (Head of Phase 1) from Coundon Court to inform you that there will notbe atransition day on the 1st July due to the current circumstances. They will however, be launching a Virtual Transition Week via their school’s website. More information to follow…

The English focus this week will follow on from your character work last week and progressing towards story writing. The lessons will be taken from the Oaks National Academy website. If you have any problems either email us or drop in on Teams to discuss.
For Grammar this week you will be using your knowledge to identify the correct answers by ticking the relevant box. You don’t need to complete them all but just do your best.
Barry Bennett hates being called ‘Barry’ and has made a list of ten other things he hates. Barry feels that his friends have better names, better clothes, better birthdays and definitely better parents. Barry wishes he had better parents and is transported to a world where children choose their own.
Listen/watch the author reading the extract then have a go at the activities.
Would you like to spend your holiday on a crocodile farm with your worst enemy? Nonikiwe Mattita certainly wouldn’t. But when Mum goes away for work, Noni is sent far away to Cape Town. She will spend a week living with the crocodiles, and with Johan, whom she despises. And to make matters worse, there is tension at the farm. Noni soon finds herself involved in a deadly mystery. Will she – and Johan – survive to tell the tale?
As well as the lessons above if you would like to freshen up your reading comprehension skills then try the work below based around Wimbledon. You choose whether you think you should do Clouds, Moons or Stars then either print them off or write the answers in your book.
For your spellings this week you will apply the Year 5/6 spellings into sentences. Clouds places the correct word, moons involves unscrambling the words first and for stars you need to know the meanings and apply your synonyms!
This week we are moving on from Fractions, decimals and percentages to a unit on Algebra. The links are to the BBC Bitesize lessons and remember if you need any help you can email us or drop in on Teams.
Sounds travel as invisible sound waves down our ear to our ear drum.
Once the sound waves hit our ear drum, the vibrations send a message to our brain which converts it into sound. Learn about different features of sound including pitch and volume.
In today’s lesson, we visit a key topic of Black Lives Matter given the recent case of George Floyd. The lesson is around creating hope for the future – a future that is not based on the colour of someone’s skin but the content of their character.
Mr Scott, Miss Perrett and Mr Perkins certainly found it a challenge this week to nominate children who have been STARS this week. They have been so impressed with the positive attitude and work ethic. However, the children they have nominated are (see examples of their work below):
Owen for his wonderful poster on Viking longboats. He took a conscientious approach and I am sure you would agree the outcome is wonderful !
Poppy E has worked hard throughout the week and produced an excellent piece of work based on her research and understanding about Viking Boats. The piece of work also included colons and semi-colons – an aspect of our English work this week.
Scarlett for a superb first week back in school and for her detailed and accurate drawing of a Viking long boat.

How do you fancy challenging friends, family or neighbours to some fun, virtual sporting activities?
At national children’s charity, the Youth Sport Trust, we are determined to ensure that young people stay active and connected through this difficult time. We’ve been helping families do this with our daily #StayHomeStayActive activities since March and now we’re challenging the public to go one step further by joining us in our first ever National School Sport Week at Home, supercharged by Sky Sports.
Coundon Primary School is preparing to join the Youth Sport Trust and Sky Sports to help young people and families up and down the country engage in a week of virtual sporting challenges.
With young people set to miss out on their main school sport day this summer, the Youth Sport Trust is taking its annual National School Sport Week campaign beyond the school gates to parents and families – reinvented as National School Sport Week at Home.
Taking place from 20-26 June, the week will give families, communities, schools and sports clubs the opportunity to take part in a series of virtual sporting challenges which help young people capture the enjoyment, competition and camaraderie they may be missing out on and the Youth Sport Trust is delighted that Sky Sports will be helping to supercharge the campaign.
