Welcome back to a new academic year. Keep an eye on the blog this year as we share lots of your fantastic learning and experiences.

Year 5 Blitz Experience Day

Year 5, as part of a local history project, took part in a Blitz Experience Day. They learnt about the reasons why Coventry was targeted during World War 2; the impact of the Blitz and how it may have affected the people of Coventry afterwards.

Year 5 looked amazing in their outfits and even brought a brown paper bag with their 40s style snack for breaktime.

Maths Photo Competition

During this week, your child has participated in maths activities related to Coventry, including its history.

As part of this, we are running a maths photo competition ‘Looking at Coventry Through Maths Eyes’. The aim of this is to help everyone realise that maths is all around us and our local environment is mathematically rich. Using the things around us is a superb way to engage your child in talking about maths.

Over half term, we would like you and your child to take a photo/snapshot of familiar things that capture some aspect of real-life mathematics in and around Coventry.  We would like you to send your photo into us with a mathematical question (see examples below).  There are prizes up for grabs!

Please send your ‘Looking at Coventry Through Maths Eyes’ photos/questions to Mrs Walton by Wednesday 1st March to [email protected]    Please state clearly your child’s name and class.

I looking forward to seeing all your photos,

Mrs Walton

VR Experience – The Mayans

VR Experience Day for Y5 on the Mayans

Year 5 had an amazing experience, using the PrimeVR (https://primevr.co.uk) headsets, to explore the ancient ruins of the Mayan Civilisation.  Pupils were able to have a 360 degrees view of each site to explore artefacts and evidence of how they used to live.  We learnt about the games they played and how, if you lost, you would then be sacrificed!  You certainly did not wish to lose that game!

Some Y5 Pupil feedback:

“It was really good ; it was great how we were able to see the pyramids and we learnt a bit about the Mayans.”

“I found it very amusing because it was 3D and whenever you turned around, you could see everything. You have a view as if you were in the air.”

“It was very realistic and we learnt about the different artefacts.”
