Please find below this week’s homework. In addition, please read as often as you can and practise your times tables.
Welcome to the Year 4 Blog! Over the next few weeks, you are going to be learning how to access work on the blog, send emails and how to use Microsoft Teams.
Lesson 1 – Online Internet Safety
This week we are going to learn the importance of staying safe on the internet. Please click on the download below and read it. Once everyone has done this we will then complete a quiz.
Now we are going to see how much you have learnt by taking part in a quiz.
Click the link below which will take you through to a new page. Click on….
Type in the pin that is on the whiteboard.
Please find below this half term’s spellings and this week’s homework. In addition, please ensure that your child is reading and practising their times tables. Homework is due in on Wednesdays and the spelling test will be on Thursdays.
First of all, we would like to welcome you and your child to Year 4. We hope that all of the children have enjoyed their first few days back at school, despite it being a little different for them. We have been very impressed at how positive and eager they have been and we look forward to an exciting year ahead. Please find below some key information;
PE
PE will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday in Year 4. Please ensure that your child comes to school in their PE kit (black joggers/leggings, black jumper, white t-shirt and trainers/pumps). Can we ask that hair is tied back and that earrings are removed or small studs are worn.
Homework
Each week, homework will be handed out on a Thursday or Friday, in an A4 red book. We will also put this onto the Year 4 blog each week. They will usually have a piece of maths and a piece of English each week. However, at times this may change and include another subject or set a small project. All homework is to be completed and handed in on or before the following Wednesday, unless otherwise stated. Each piece of homework should not take your child more than about 15/20 minutes. It is important that children complete their homework each week, but it is not a problem if they are occasionally unable to complete it. Please just sign their homework book to let us know. In addition, we will also be regularly sending home times tables practise homework.
Reading
In Year 4, your child will be on a coloured reading stage or be a free reader. We would like your child to read their reading book but please encourage them to read a range of texts e.g. newspapers magazines, poetry, non-fiction. The aim should be for your child to read every night, even if it is only a few pages. Whilst reading we recommend you ask your child key questions about the text to develop comprehension. Please sign their reading diary to show when they have read and how far they have got. As long as it is signed to say they have finished it, they will be able to change their book when they are ready. Please note that your child will be responsible for changing their reading book and we will not be changing it for them. Therefore we would appreciate your support in reminding them to do this.
Spellings
Your child will be given new spellings on Thursdays to practise ready for a test the following Thursday. Their spellings will be a combination of words following a spelling rule, the expected word list and topic words.
Times Tables
Rapid recall of times tables will be a key focus for Year 4 this year, as all the children will be sitting the National Multiplication Test Check in July. This involves 25 questions from any of the times tables up to 12 x 12 and your child will have 6 seconds to answer each one. It is essential that your child continues to practise their times tables up to 12 x12, as well as the associated division facts.
Please encourage your child to use Times Tables Rockstars and the Soundcheck game. They are both a similar style to the test they will take in July. Furthermore, the following website is another great way to practise and to give you an idea of the test expectations. https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check
Water bottles
Your child is allowed a water bottle in school which will be kept in a designated area in the classroom. Please ensure that the bottle only contains water, has a sports cap or similar anti-spillage lid and is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Thank yoy
The Year 4 Team – Mrs Walton, Mrs McManus, Mr Perkins and Mrs Thompson
From September and in line with Government Guidance, we will be getting outside a lot more (in all sorts of weather conditions), this will include our PE lessons.
We will be asking the children to come into school on their PE days IN THEIR PE UNIFORM. (They will find out their PE days during the first week back). They will then stay in this for the day, so a change of clothes will not be needed in school. The main reason for this change is for safety reasons; it has been advised that we reduce the amount of belongings that are coming to and from each home and onto the school site.
For the older children, this change also comes about as there will be reduced space for them to change separately (boys and girls) due to them being in their class bubbles.
To make sure that the children are suitably dressed once the cooler weather sets in, we would like the children to have black jogging bottoms, a black hoody or sweatshirt and suitable outdoor footwear to wear alongside their usual white t-shirt and black shorts.
We thank you for your support with this.
Miss Kelly Perrett and Mrs Victoria Gray
Hello Year 4 and Year 4 grown ups!
Hope you are all well and have had a wonderful summer. The Year 4 Team are really looking forward to welcoming you back to school on Wednesday 2nd September. We can’t wait to get to see you and to begin our new adventure.
From September, how you arrive and leave school will be a little different and each class will do this at different times. You will be expected to meet your class teacher at the Southbank Road entrance and you will also meet your grown ups at this entrance at the end of the day. Please ensure that you arrive at your allocated times.
4MW Arrive at 8:50am Hometime 3:20pm
4AT Arrive at 9:00am Hometime 3:30pm
4PP Arrive at 9:10am Hometime 3:40pm
Please note that on days when you will have P.E. you will need to come to school dressed in your P.E kit for the day. We will inform of your specific P.E days, once you have returned to school.
In addition, you are allowed to bring in your school bag and coat etc as usual. Initially, we would like lunches to be in a disposable bag, however, if this is not possible please send in a lunchbox as normal. You can also bring in a water bottle to use in the classroom. We ask that the water bottle and lunchbox are washed each evening before returning to school the next day.
See you soon,
The Year 4 Team
To all the parents,
We would like to welcome you to Year 4! We know that this is not the normal way you would be meeting us, but we hope that you are excited to find out a little about your child’s new teachers. We are working hard to ensure that the return in September is as ‘normal’ as possible and we have been chatting to your child’s previous teachers to find out all about them. We are very excited to meet them and you.
To all the children,
We would like to welcome you all to Year 4! How strange that must be to hear! We know that things are different at the moment and most of you haven’t been in school for a very long time, however, we are working really hard setting up your new classrooms, ready for when you return. We can’t wait to meet you all and to get to know you. Below, you will find some information about each of the members of the Year 4 Team. Have a wonderful summer!
Mrs Walton, Mrs McManus, Mr Perkins, Miss Thompson, Mrs Alford, Mrs Walker and Mrs Ward!

Get Set 4 PE have organised a set of fun activities for schools to use as part of a Sports Day.
Those of you at home can take part too! Either do them all in a day or spread them out over the week.
Record your scores on the score sheet and email your results to your teacher.
The activities are differentiated for EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
If you’re at home and want your grown ups to take part too, then they should complete the activities that are aimed at KS2.
There are 7 games to complete, all of which can be found in the PowerPoint below.
Have fun!
This will be our last week on Teams before the summer holidays. Please encourage your children to come on and say hello to the teacher’s and their friends. We are happy for this week to be about them speaking to each other and saying hi to us. A teacher will be online at all times to monitor this.
Monday 9-9.30, Tuesday 9-9.30, Wednesday 10-12, Thursday 10-12 and Friday 10-12.
