This week we will be doing an art week. We will be collaging, learning how to mix colours and studying a well known artist.
In Phonics, we will be assessing the children on their progress over this half term ready to start new groups after the holiday. There won’t be any phonics books sent home on Friday.
In Maths, we will be learning about numbers to 50 on a number line, missing numbers on a number line and 1 more and 1 less. We will also be practising our number formation of numbers to 50.
We will also be doing some Easter activities this week including learning about the Easter story and how Christian’s celebrate Easter.
We had an amazing day celebrating world book day. The children’s outfit’s were brilliant and it was lovely to share some of their favourite stories with the class.
This week is British Science week and we will be doing extra Science. We will be learning about the senses and carrying out a jelly experiment. Each year group will be learning about a well known Scientist.
We also have assessments in Maths, reading, grammar and spelling this week.
In Maths, we will continue to learn about place value to 50 and deepening our understanding of how to partition numbers into tens and ones. We will also learn how to use number lines to 50 and learn where the numbers go on a number line.
In phonics, we have had a number of children not returning the reading books sent home. If a book is not returned from the previous week we are unable to give out a new book. There are many books missing at great cost to the school. Please check at home to see if you have any school reading books and return as soon as possible.
On Wednesday 13th 1DF will be performing our assembly. Please join us to see what we have been learning and doing this term. The assembly starts at 9.00 AM.
This week in topic, we will be learning about the materials different toys are made from and looking at examples of toys.
We have a ‘wow’ day making toys planned for Monday 11th March but we currently haven’t received enough contributions to pay for it which may mean we will have to cancel. If possible please can you make your donation by the end of Monday 4th March.
In Science, we will be learning about our senses and this week we will learn about the sense of smell by investigating and making predictions about what different smells are.
In Maths, we will learning about place value to 50 by counting in 10’s and partitioning in ten’s and ones.

In phonics, the children are making fantastic progress. Well done for completing the online home work and reading wise activities which supports their learning. Many children are working through the reading wise program and moving up a level.
On Thursday 7th March it is world book day and to celebrate, your child can come to school dressed as their favourite book character. We will be taking part in the ‘Big Bookie Breakfast’ where your child can bring in a breakfast snack and their favourite book to share with the class. We also be doing other fun activities linked to inspiring a love of reading.
On the 11th March 1DF will be doing their class assembly. Please join us at 9.00 in the main hall to find out what we have been learning about.
On the 15th March it is Comic relief day and we will be holding a non-uniform day to support the charity. Please bring a donation.

In Science, we will be investigating how to measure height. Looking at the tallest man in the world and making our own height chart and comparing ourselves with the tallest man in the world.
In Maths, we will be learning about doubles, finding the difference, related number facts , missing number problems and consolidating our knowledge of subtraction by counting back on a number line in our independent learning.

In Science, we will be learning more about parts of the body. We will be using microscopes and hand held lenses to look closely at parts of the body such as hair, nose and tongue.
In Maths, we will be learning about doubles, near doubles, subtraction using number bonds and subtraction by counting back on a number line.

In phonics the children are making fantastic progress and many of them are moving groups or moving up a book level in their phonics groups. Well done for completing the online home work and reading wise activities which supports their learning.
We had a busy week in Year 1 thinking about our mental health. We did activities that helped us understand the importance of listening to each other’s voices. We played Chinese whispers and made our own telephones.
We shared the things that are important to us and discussed and wrote about our favourite things and this helped us to understand that we all think differently and that’s ok. We even learnt how to sign the word ‘Favourite’!
We also thought and wrote about what kindness is. We wrote about things that we could do or say that are kind.
This week is mental health week and we will be participating in various activities and lessons linked to this. We will focus on being a good listener, being kind and thinking about our favourite things, what we enjoy doing and what makes us happy.
It is also safer internet day on Tuesday so the children will be learning about how to keep safe when using the internet.
In read write inc we will be assessing the children on their progress. As this term has been fairly short most children won’t move groups.
In maths, we will be comparing and ordering numbers to 20 and completing our end of unit assessment before moving on to number bonds to 20.
On Friday as part of mental health week the children can come to school in their favourite colour , clothes or clothes that represent their favourite hobby or just come as they are.
This week, in our toys topic we will be learning about changes in toys over time due to developments in materials, health and safety and technology.
In Maths, we will be learning the place value of numbers within 20. We will be learning how to use number lines to 20, estimating numbers within 20 and finding 1 more and 1 less.

In Maths, we will be learning the place value of numbers within 20. We will learn about tens and ones and look at how to make different numbers within 20 using practical equipment like bead strings, numicon, tens frames and diennes.
