Welcome to Year 1 – 1KB

Miss Blowers

Hello soon to be Year 1, my name is Miss Blowers and I will be one of your new teachers in September and I am very excited to meet you all. I am currently a teacher in Year 3 and will be moving to Year 1 in September, so Year 1 will be new to me too but I am sure if we work together we will have lots of fun and learn lots of new things.

When you start in Year 1, school might be a little bit different to how you remember it, however we will still be able to do lots of exciting activities, build lots of friendships and learn many new skills.

So you know a little bit more about me before you start, I’d like to tell you a few things about myself.

I have lived in Coventry most of my life, only leaving to study at Cardiff University. I have 1 child who has just turned 1, her name is Eliza and she is very mischievous. I enjoy listening to music and am currently trying to learn to play piano, not very successfully though. I enjoy going on long walks with my family and visiting my mum and dad who moved to Wales a few years ago.

I came to Coundon Primary School when I was your age and some of the teaching assistants and teachers that work here now were my teachers too.

My favourite children’s author is Roald Dahl and I enjoy reading all of his stories, but my daughter’s favourite story book is ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson. Julia Donaldson is your author study for this year. Do you like Julia Donaldson’s books? Or do you have a different favourite author?

Sometimes I can find my work a little bit tricky or I might be a little bit tired or nervous, and that is okay, but I learnt a super skill that I hope we can all work on together throughout the year which helps me a lot. This special skill is called ‘Resilience’. Now I know that is a really long word that you might be unsure of, all it means is ‘I will keep trying and trying until I achieve my goal.’ Hopefully we will all be resilient, confident and happy learners together this year.

This year, your teaching assistant will be Mrs Wilson and she has sent me a special message to share with you:

Mrs Wilson

‘Hi, I’m Mrs Wilson.I’m really looking forward to getting to know you all and finding out your favourite things to do. I love to read lots of books but I especially like Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy and Matilda.’

We can’t wait to see you in September and learn all about you too. We hope you have a fun, restful and exciting summer holiday and will have lots of stories to share when you join us in Year 1.

Take care and stay safe,
Miss Blowers and Mrs Wilson

End of Year Message

To our darling Year Ones,

We know things have been difficult over the last few months, many of you will not have seen any of your friends or loved ones but hopefully things will now begin to change for the better.

Regardless of the amount of home learning you may or may not have done, the most important thing is that you have remained safe and well during such hard times.

The Year One staff would like to say how proud we are of each and every one of you for carrying on through it all with a smile.  It has been a pleasure getting to know all of you and watching you learn and grow.

Some of you will be excited about moving on to Year Two and some of you might be worried. Your Year Two teachers are amazing and they cannot wait to get to know you and care for you as you continue to grow.

To parents and carers, we truly appreciate how difficult it has been to find a balance between schooling, work and home life and we would like to thank you for all of your support during these uncertain times.

Have a wonderful summer holiday all and don’t worry, we will come and visit you in your new classes! You can’t get away from us that easily.

You will always be our ‘rainbow class’ of 2020. A year that will never be forgotten. Love from the Year One Team x

The Rainbow Games WB 13.7.20

Get Set 4 PE have organised a set of fun activities for schools to use as part of a Sports Day.

Those of you at home can take part too! Either do them all in a day or spread them out over the week.

Record your scores on the score sheet and email your results to your teacher.

The activities are differentiated for EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

If you’re at home and want your grown ups to take part too, then they should complete the activities that are aimed at KS2.

There are 7 games to complete, all of which can be found in the PowerPoint below.

Have fun!

Home Learning WB:13.07.20

Hello everyone,

I can’t believe it is the last week already! I have loved catching up with some of you over teams these past few weeks! I am so grateful that I have been able to teach such a fantastic group of children this year and I am so sad that we will not be able to say goodbye the way we usually do. I will make sure to see each and everyone of you in Year 2 come September as I have missed you all so much.

I am so proud of you all, you have been an absolute credit to us over these past couple of months and I know that this will continue with Mrs Sweet and Mrs Dalton next year. Take care and have the best summer ever! YOU DESERVE IT!

Missing you all,

Miss Masterson xx

Year One Week 7 Curriculum Learning (WB 13.7.20)

I cannot believe this is our last week of Term!

It was lovely to see some of you return to school over this last half term. I am so sad that I have not had the chance to see so many of you but I am glad that those of you that have stayed home, have stayed safe during such strange times. It will be odd not to finish the school year with the chance to say goodbye as you move on. I will definitely come up to Year Two in September to make sure I see each and everyone of you as I have missed you all! Enjoy this last week and then have an AMAZING Summer with no home learning!

Miss you all dearly, Mrs Gray x
