For those who want an extra phase 5 activity have a go at the workbook below in your journals.
We urge you to continue reading with your child and have included the Oxford reading link below. Reading just 10 minutes each day really will help your child progress and is extremely valuable!
This week’s book for maths is ‘Princess mirror Belle’ . There are some lovely activities all about 3D shapes and sorting. We have added the link for the story on youtube too.
For our wider curriculum this week we would like you to look at recycling. Lot’s of you are out and about and may have noticed busy areas getting a bit messy! This would be a good opportunity to do some litter picking and talk about how we look after our environment. We have attached ‘The messy Magpie’ story on Youtube and also included some recycling activities to have a look at.
Please refer to Mrs Ellis’ latest letter about return arrangements to school from Monday 15th June. All parents were previously asked to request a place for their child if they wished them to return to school. Miss Plimmer will have phoned all of the parents for the children that were allocated a space. If you did not request a place and have not received a phone call from Miss Plimmer then your child should not attend school next week. Staff have been working incredibly hard to place children in bubbles and these bubbles can not be amended or added to as they rely on staffing and having an allocated room in the school. This will be reviewed in two weeks time where any increase in numbers can be catered for according to Government guidelines. Please send any requests by email to the school office. It is parents responsibility to read all emails from school to keep updated with all of the changes taking place.
The children in school will be doing the same learning as the children at home. This work will be added to the website each Monday. If you have any concerns about the work then Miss Plimmer will be available on TEAMs each day from 10.00-12.00 for all three classes. As class teachers will be in school every day there will be less oportunity to communicate by email but we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Welcome to another week of home learning. Thank you to all those children that have been emailing us with photos, we love to see your work and are very impressed with how hard you are all working. There are a lot of children we still haven’t heard from. Please drop us a message so we can keep in touch. For those that requested a place for their child to come back in to school this term, Mrs Ellis will let you know details this week about an opening date and then you should receive a phone call to let you know details of arrival and departure times and where to drop off and pick up. Currently we are waiting for confirmation from the Local Education Authority and once that has been given to the school Mrs Ellis will be able to update you further. If you no longer need this place then please contact the school to let them know as we are having to group the children in bubbles so need to know how many will be in each one.
This week we would like you to continue on with your Phonic sessions.
Miss Plimmer’s, Miss Warsop’s and Mrs Hollingsworth’s groups should carry on with the Reception learning for the week beginning 18th May to the 22nd May where they will review the sounds already covered.
Miss Jones’ and Mrs Johnson’s groups should follow the learning to blend tab for the 18th – 22nd May
Mrs Towner’s group should follow the Year 1 tab for the 18th – 22nd May
For any of Mrs Towner’s or Miss Warsop’s groups that would like an extra challenge then please have a go with this tricky words booklet. If you can’t print off the booklet then please just try to write the answers where you can in your journal.
This weeks book for Maths is ‘The Princess and the Wizard’. There are some lovely activities that look at pattern, symmetry and doubles. Remember to practise the ‘Doubles rap’ we have added the link to the song on YouTube so that you can become an expert on your doubles. If you like number songs then look for ‘Jack Hartman’ on youtube and he does a wide range of number songs. Go back over your numbers to 100 and your number bonds to 5, 10 and 20.
As we are looking at the ‘Princess and the Wizard’ this week we though we would do some work on traditional tales for our curriculum work. Have a go at these activities.
This would be a good opportunity to read some traditional tales as we would have read different ones every day if we had been in school. There are some traditional tales on the Oxford Owl website so why not have a look at those when you go on to do your reading. Please don’t forget to read. Reading for 10 minutes each day will be the best tool in helping your child to minimise any loss of learning while they have been away from school. We can’t stress enough how this is the most important thing that you as parents can do.
We hope you have a wonderful week and fingers crossed the sun starts to shine again. Keep up all the good work and we look forward to seeing your lovely photos.
Maths this week will be a range of activities following the story ‘Snail and the whale’. We have included a link to the story if you haven’t got the book at home.
This week we would like you to look at what makes you unique. The power point offers good discussion points and some nice activities. You may wish to do some art work or sentence writing about what makes you unique. We would love to see photos!
We would also like to wish a happy birthday to the following children turning 5 in June: Thomas L, Poppy G,Lara,Violet,Freddie, Elodie,Tilly-Blue and Sofia- Rose.
Well done everybody you have made it to half term (extra special well done parents!). Please make sure you have a lovely break over the week. We have been very impressed with all of the pictures of work that we are being sent by email each week. It is lovely to see how you are engaging with the work set and to know you are working hard even when you are not at school. This week we have seen some fantastic mini-beast work, we hope you enjoyed it. Her are some photos of some of this weeks lovely work:
There is no expectation to do any work over the half term break. We would love you to keep reading though so if you can then please remember to visit the Oxford Owl website to read a range of online ebooks. Remember parents you can also read books to your child from this website too, just click the tab for ‘see all ebooks’ and you should be able to see a wide range of books from a variety of levels.
Staff are currently working hard to devise a plan for June 1st for the possible reopening of school to some children. Mrs Ellis will continue to keep you informed over email so please make sure you are reading the emails sent from school as these will have all of the relevant information in them and may also require a response from you.
Please find below a lovely little video that helps to prepare children for not being able to hug others. It will be difficult for young children to understand that they can’t meet and play with others in the same way that they did before but hopefully this will help to start those discussions so that children are prepared for when the time comes and we can see others again.
Have a lovely half term, we hope the sun shines and we all manage to have a safe relaxing time. Please try to ensure you and your family adhere to the social distancing rules as some children may be back in school after the break and we need to ensure all families safety
Hello Reception, can you believe we are in week 7 of Home schooling! We would like to say a massive well done to you all and your parents for trying so hard to keep up with your school work. We know you have all probably got questions to ask about the reopening of Reception on June 1st and are quite anxious. Mrs Ellis will be in touch with you all once a plan has been formulated as you can imagine it is a big undertaking and we have lots of issues to sort through. Just know that ultimately the choice is yours.
This week we would like you to continue with the Phonics, Maths and Curriculum work as you have done over the last few weeks. Miss Perrit and Mrs Gray have also asked us to pinpoint you in the direction of ‘Real P.E’ which is the scheme of work we were beginning to follow in school for our P.E lessons. If you would like to get involved in some fun P.E sessions then please read the attached file below.
Phonics will continue the format we used last week. We asked parents to let us know which format they preferred but only had a limited amount of responses so we are sticking with the online teaching videos as these seemed to be the favoured response.
Miss Jones and Mrs Johnson’s groups please follow ‘Learning to Blend’ 4th -8th May
Miss Plimmer’s, Miss Warsop’s and Mrs Hollingsworth’s Phonics Groups follow the Reception tab 4th – 8th May
Mrs Towner’s phonics group follow the Year 1 tab 4th -8th May
If there are any children in Mrs Towner’s Phonics group who require an extra challenge or feel they know the sounds that are been taught in the online videos then feel free to have a go at this Phase 5 activity booklet
Maths This week will be a range of activities following the story ‘Superworm’. We have included a link to the story if you haven’t got the book at home. We have seen some lovely photos of the different Maths activities and are so glad that you are enjoying them.
To link with some of the lovely Maths work you have been enjoying we are going to focus on Mini-beasts this week for our Curriculum learning. Get outside and see what mini-beasts you can find. If you go out on a daily walk have a look for as many different ones as you can. Coundon Wedge is a fantastic place to look for mini-beasts so if you haven’t been, maybe you could walk that way and go on a mini-beast hunt. We would have been going for a walk and a Brook paddle down at the wedge if we had been in school so maybe you could pop on your wellies and go and have a paddle in the shallow bit of the wedge and look for mini-beasts – make sure you do this safely though and with a grown up. We would love to see photos of your mini-beast hunt. Read the story below and have a go at the different activities.
We hope you have a wonderful week Reception. We have added another story read by one of the Reception team to microsoft teams for you to have a look at. The teachers phoned this week with your email and password details so if you would like to see the story then don’t forget to log in.
Have a wonderful week and don’t forget to keep in touch there are still a number of children that we have not heard from – class email addresses are below.
We would like to wish very happy lock down birthday wishes to the following children who have had their birthday over the last few weeks or are due to have their birthday this month: Sofia, Lydia, Freya O’T, Alfie, Ada, Tharanya, Orla, Ella, Chloe and Tyler H.
Hello Reception, we hope you all had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and managed to enjoy the VE day celebrations in the sunshine. We must begin by apologising for not yet ringing you with your email address to enable you to access Microsoft Teams to communicate with staff about the work set. It took a little longer than expected to sort out email addresses but we will be phoning you over the next couple of days to share this with you. Once you have your email address and password you will need to follow the following link https://www.office.com/ to log in. The password you will be given will be a generic one so you are free to change this. The idea of microsoft teams is to allow children to chat to their teachers live about the work set. This is obviously better suited to the older children but is a function available if you wish to use it. We must state though it is only to chat about the work that has been set not to disscuss other issues. Please use the class email addresses for any other communication. Please do not feel you have to use TEAMs, it is just another form of communication open to you. Class teachers will be available to chat about Phonics 10-10.30 every week day and Maths 11-11.30 every weekday.
We would like to say a massive thank you for all the lovely emails this week. We love seeing all the lovely work you have been doing and also your lovely smiley faces. If you haven’t managed to email yet then please try to this week.
This week for Phonics we would like you to try some phonic sessions that should help to move your Phonics on and teach what you would have been taught had we been in school. These online sessions are taught by Teachers and follow the letters and sounds scheme that we follow in school. Please let us know how you get on with these sessions as they are a little different to the PowerPoints the children have been doing over the last few weeks. We would love to know which format you prefer. Please note which sessions we would like your child’s Phonics group to follow ( these are identified under the link)
Miss Plimmer’s, Miss Warsop’s and Mrs Hollingsworth’s groups should Follow the Reception Link and should try the five lessons starting from the 27th April – 1st May. Miss Jones and Mrs Johnson’s Phonics groups should follow the ‘Learning to Blend’ link again the 27th April – 1st May. Mrs Towner’s Phonics group should follow the Year 1 link and again follow the 5 lessons from the 27th April – 1st May (If your child is struggling with this then please follow the Reception link so they can recap the sounds previously been taught). Don’t forget to warm up with the Jolly Phonics or Tricky words songs that can be found on YouTube.
For your Maths sessions this week we will be following the story ‘The Very Busy Spider’. You can find the story in the link bellow and also the link to the weeks sessions. We have seen some lovely photos of activities you have been doing with your Maths. Its lovely to hear that you are enjoying the Maths sessions. This week you will be doing some work on patterns, addition and subtraction and doubles. If you would like to learn a little more about ‘doubles’ we have added the link to the doubles rap that we would love you to have a try at learning.
For those of you who would like a little extra challenge then please have a go at some of these ‘Digging Deeper’ Tasks.
This week for our curriculum work we would like you to think about staying healthy. Please follow the different activities on the PowerPoint and think about ways that you can stay healthy. What things are you doing at home to stay healthy? See if you can help to make a healthy meal. And remember a great way to start your day in a healthy way is to join Jo Wickes on YouTube doing his daily exercise session.
Parents we would just like to say a massive thank you for all that you are doing at home. We know it is not an easy task to home school especially when you are also trying to work from home. We have had some feedback that some of the children are struggling at the moment. Please do not worry or stress. Let the children take the lead. If they don’t want to do something Please do not force it. The most important thing is to look after your child’s and your own well being. Get outside, go for a walk, bake a cake, play board games or card games, get down with the children and play their games or just read and chat to them. There is learning in everything that we do. If you don’t get all of the activities done it doesn’t matter. Do what you can and please try not to feel guilty we are all trying to get through this strange situation as best we can. Remember we are always only an email away and will get back to you as quickly as we can to offer any support or words of advice.
We hope you have lovely week and look forward to seeing your lovely photos (these do not just have to be of school work).
We just wanted to let you ALL know how much we are all missing you. This is a message from the staff to you. Hope you enjoy it! Thank you to the extraordinarily talented Mrs A-B for putting this together. Hope you enjoy it. Coundon Primary presents…
Parents – thank you for the photos sent so far. If you do not want your child’s photo going on the blog page then please mention this to the class teacher when you email. We will try to add a selection of photos to the blog each week to show examples of some of the lovely work being done. Obviously we will be unable to put up every photo as adding 90 photos each week would be quite a mission but it is lovely for us to see them. Thank you for all you are doing at home with your children – we really appreciate it and can see some lovely activities being done. Please do not stress if you can’t get everything done, do what you can as any little bit is better than doing nothing. Try to read regularly there are lots of eBooks to read on the Oxford owl website.
