This week we have prepared food similar to what people eat in Mexico. The children chopped, grated and prepared the ingredients.

As part of our Spanish and Discovery lessons we have been learning about Pok-a-Tok. Today we had a good at playing it during out PE lesson.

On Friday 26th September 2025, Mrs Riley, MFL lead, took some of the Year 5 and 6 pupils to Warwick University to take part in the European Day of Languages. This was an enrichment opportunity for pupils to further develop their Spanish skills. The pupils took part in four activities: Flamenco dancing; learning about the historic story of Don Quixote; an escape room and a Spanish quiz. It was a priviledge to take the Coundon Pupils on Friday who displayed their Spanish speaking skills throughout the day. Well done Year 5 and 6.

On Friday 7th July, Year 5 pupils walked to Bablake to take part in three transition activities across the morning: D and T, Science and Maths. We took either some cookies or a made money box in D and T. In the Maths lesson, we had to solve a range of mathematical reasoning tasks before we could get the next one – we scored points to win the challenge. In Science, we dissected a flower and observed each male of female part through a microscope. Thank you to the staff at Bablake for organising the activities.

This week, we were really lucky to have Coundon secondary pupils delivering Spanish and French workshops to all of our Year 5 pupils. We learnt some vocabulary, translated sentences and completed activities about each language. This was also a great opportunity for our pupils to shine with their Spanish reading and translating – showcasing their own learning. Mrs Riley is exploring future links with other schools as part of her role as the lead for Modern Foreign Languages with feeder schools. Thank you to the pupils and teachers at Coundon Secondary School for the Spanish and French Workshops.

Year 5, as part of Local History Week, visited the Coventry Town Centre to compare old bomb sites with how it looks today. They visited the Herbert Art Gallery, where they had the opportunity to try an Anderson shelter and explore artefacts, readings and footage from World War 2. We finished the visit spending time in the old Coventry Cathedral – where we could clearly see a reminder of the bombing during the Coventry Blitz on 14th November 1940. In addition to this, the children also took part in a WOW day dressed as evacuees.
