We are going on a bear hunt activities

This week we have been acting out and retelling the story ‘We are going on a bear hunt’ We had lots of fun acting the story out on the school field and even found a bear!

We all joined in the ring game ‘here we go round the Mulberry bush’ as we explored the frost on the field.

Homework 26/11/20

Please find below this week’s homework. This is due on Wednesday 1st December. Please try to read each day and complete your reading diary. Also, remember to have a go on Numbots and Times Tables Rockstars.

Reading and Phonics in Year One

Reading is incredibly important in Year One. The children will make use of their phonics, initially by recognising letter sounds and then by sound talk and blending those sounds. They are also taught to recognise ‘Tricky Words’, which are not phonetically decodable. Having missed so much of their phonics during lockdown, it is paramount that we ensure there are no gaps in their learning via phonics lessons, one to one reading with the adults in the year group and through guided reading sessions.

Alongside the work we are carrying out in school, we would like the support of our parents at home. The best way you can support your child’s reading, is to simply listen to them read at home 3 – 5 times a week, ideally. When you have heard your child read, please sign their diary so we can see that they have been practicing. This reading and the reading of the ‘Phase Words’ that we shall be sending home, make up your child’s reading homework.

To continue to support the children with their phonics, they have also all been issued with a ‘Reading Wise’ login. Please allow them to have some time to access this site, as it will address any gaps in their early phonics work.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Year One Team

NUMBOTS

While in Year One, we would like the children to make use of our subscription to NUMBOTS as part of their mathematics homework. Their usernames and passwords can be found on their reading diaries. Enjoy!
