The Reception team are delighted to welcome all the children back from the Easter break. We hope you have had a lovely couple of weeks rest and are ready to return to school for some super learning!

In phonics this week, we will be revising the learning we did in the Spring term. We will be focusing on the sounds; ai, ee, igh, oa, ar, oo, ow, ear and oi. We will be playing physical phonics games and using the sounds we have learned to write sentences. Our main focus this week, is to apply the phonics we have learned into our reading and writing.

Richardson Endowed Primary

In maths this week, we will be starting to learn numbers to 20. We will be looking at the numerals 11 to 20 and how we can represent the number using different objects. This will allow the children to see the tens and ones and how this corelates with the numeral. We will also be introducing estimating amounts using objects. The children will hold different amounts in each hand and estimate which they think has more. They will look at their objects and estimate if they think there is more or less than 10.

In the wider curriculum, we will be having a super hero week! We will be reading stories about different superheroes and what makes them super. The children will be designing their own super hero costume and discussing what their powers would be. We will focus on how we all have the abilities to be super heroes, whether it is through being kind, helping others, eating healthy and any talents we have. To celebrate this, we will be asking the children to come into school on Friday 30th May in a super hero costume of their choice. You can create your own costume or wear one they may already have at home.

They can also play on Times Tables Rockstars and Numbots. In addition, please encourge your child to read as much as possible (home school reading book, comics, magazines etc). Your child can all access Fiction Express, which has a great range of books. These are available on three levels with quizzes and other fun activities.
