Please find below this weeks homework for Maths and English. Please remember to read your book for extra dojos and to complete at least ten minutes on Times Tables Rockstars.
Week Beginning 1st November
We hope that everyone has had a fabulous half term and the children are ready to get back into their school routines and learning. It has been lovely to hear all of their news about what they have been up to in their half term break, from carving pumpkins to trick or treating in their Halloween outfits!

In phonics this week, the children will be placed in their new phonics groups and will be meeting their new phonics teacher. The week will consist of getting to know the children in their new groups and allowing their phonics teacher to get a good understanding of where they are and what they need to work on. The children will be recapping the sounds they have been learning and using them to help spell words and practising writing them down, using the correct letter formation. At home, continue to use the letter cards that were sent home. Ask your child to create simple CVC words using the letters. If they are confident with this, ask them to try and write the word down on paper.

In maths this week, the children are learning the numbers 1, 2 and 3. They will be learning the different ways we can make 1, 2 and 3 and how we can represent them in different ways. We will also be looking at ‘Anno’s Counting Book’, which is a great way for the children to recognise how we can show numbers differently.
In the wider curriculum, we will be learning all about Bonfire Night and why we celebrate it. We will be singing songs and creating pictures using paints and chalks. The children will be discussing the their own personal experiences and if they will be celebrating Bonfire Night, this week. The children will also be learning about how we stay safe on Bonfire Night and the potential dangers if we are careless around fire and sparklers.

Have a great week!

Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge

The countdown is on… this half term get scanning those QR codes in your local parks (or try somewhere new) as the competition ends on October 31st! Coundon are currently in with a good chance of winning but it can only remain this way with your help! Visit the website for a full list of locations and discover some of the events that are happening in the city over half term too.
Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge – City of Culture Special

The Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge continues through half term and this includes a couple of cultural events. This one in particular is highly relevant to Year 4, as after Christmas we cover THE ROMANS as our Curriculum topic.
When: Thursday 28th October, 11am – 2pm
Where: Longford Park, Coventry CV6 6DW
Did you know the name Longford is believed to relate to a “long ford” on a Roman Road passing through the district? That gives us enough of a reason to bring the Lunt Roman Fort to the park for this afternoon of active fun. Join our Roman soldiers as they put families through their paces and train children to become part of the Roman legions.
They will learn to march, follow orders in Latin and fight like a true warrior with replica swords and shields. To keep the session extra active, children can join in with some traditional Roman ball games and embrace some team spirit amongst the local community. On the day you will also learn about historical artefacts from the experts, with the University of Warwick bringing historical items along for viewing. When it is time to relax a little, sit down and enjoy storytelling sessions throughout the day bringing Roman fables and legends to life.
