Year 4 Teeth and Eating

Year 4 Learning about plaque

During our Science lesson today, the children learnt about the importance of keeping their teeth clean. The learnt about plaque and what this is. They each used a disclosure tablet to identify old and new plaque on thier teeth, before brushing them. The children found it very exciting and fascinating! Fingers crossed they won’t ever moan about brushing their teeth again!

Owl Babies

We have been sharing the story of the Owl Babies by Martin Waddell.

We have been using puppets to retell the story and created an Owl Babies tuff spot with lots of resources to recreate the story.

We also made owls in our creative area.

Week Beginning 9th October 2023

We are continuing with our topic on Autumn this week and will be reading the story “Don’t Hog the Hedge”. We will have a focus on animals and hibernation as well as being a good friend and learning to share. Can your child tell you about Autumn and some of the things they have learned. Take the time to look at signs of Autumn and collect some autumn foliage for our collection in school.

In Phonics the children have continued to learn new sounds. Keep going over all of the sounds sent home so that your child becomes confident in these letter sounds and can use them to build simple words. Below are some links for videos of some of the sounds the children have learned so far and how the children are learning to blend.

This week in maths we will be looking at patterns. The children will be continuing patterns with what comes next as well as making their own patterns. Your child will be able to make a pattern with anything – it could be their toys or cutlery or even fruit. See if your child can continue the pattern. If confident see if they can continue a trickier pattern such as fork, knife, knife, fork . . . . . We have added a link below to a shape pattern game that your child may wish to play at home.

With the varied weather at the moment the children are wanting to put their jumpers on and off but many are struggling with this. Please work with your child to teach them how to put on and take off their jumper so that they can do this themselves instead of having to wait for an adult to be available. The staff are encouraging independence in the children so would really appreciate your help with this. Please ensure all jumpers and cardigans are named as the children have a tendency to leave them everywhere and we want to get clothing back to its rightful owner.

Have a wonderful week

The Reception Team

W/C 9th October 2023

We enjoyed a wonderful trip to Twycross zoo this week, with one of the highlights being a visit to the penguins. This week as part of our topic we will be creating our penguin artwork ready for the Art exhibition in November.

In Maths this week we will be focusing on comparing numbers and 1 less than. We will be introducing key vocabulary such as fewer, more, same, less than, greater than and equal to.

Don’t forget to access the Numbots app for Maths challenges.

Thank you for supporting your child with their reading and online work. We are so pleased that so many children are completing their homework.

This week we will be starting our star challenges. The children will have 5 star challenges to complete each week to receive a Friday treat. These challenges are part of our continuous provision and are independent written or practical tasks to support, challenge and consolidate learning in year 1.

Please return parent’s consultation letters as soon as possible so we can issue you with an appointment.

Wheels Day!

Today Year 2 enjoyed riding our bikes and scooters for Wheels Day! We were experimenting to see what the effect of exercise is on our bodies. We thought carefully about our heart rates, muscles, breathing and pulse. It was great fun!

NatWest Money sense

This morning, year five took part in NatWest’s Money Sense workshop. The session was supported by a NatWest employee who helped the children consider money matters; including budgeting through planning a birthday party.

W/C: 2nd October 2023

This week is an exciting week in year one. On Tuesday we are going to Twycross zoo. This links to our topic on the Polar regions as we will be visiting the penguins and also links to our author study on Julia Donaldson as we will be going on a Gruffalo trail.

As part of our topic in science this week we will be investigating which are the best materials for keeping a Polar explorer warm.

In maths this week we will be learning to count backwards from a given number and learning how to count 1 more and 1 less from a given number.

Don’t forget to access Num bots for maths homework and further maths challenges.

Our fast track phonics intervention programme started this week which will help improve the progress of children in their phonics. Our children are working hard in phonics and we are already seeing great progress. Please encourage your child to do the reading and complete the quizes each week as this supports their learning in class. The phonics teachers can also check who has completed the homework and the children will receive extra dojos for doing their homework.

Please join us for 1AS assembly on the 11th October.

The school is currently looking for volunteer helpers. If you can spare a few hours a week to help in class please speak to one of the year one team.
