Home Learning Summer Wk3 11.05.2020

Good day Year 6! Hope you all have had a good week? Even through these uncertain times, it was lovely to celebrate VE day on Friday 8th May and pay our sincere respects to those that fought so gallantly to preserve the freedom that we have today. How did you celebrate VE day? For this week, we are going to present English and Maths tasks slightly differently. Lessons in English and Maths will be presented either through the National Oaks Academy website or BBC Bitesize – using their online lessons. There will be some English and Maths activities that you will still be able to access from here (see below). Aside from that, we would like to know how you are all doing. What have you all been up to? Drop us an email. Take care, keep safe, keep smiling 🙂

Reading

To Be A Cat

For some guided reading activities, click on the link below to access the BBC Bitesize website. The text is To Be A Cat by the author Matt Haig. Listen to the extract and there are various activities that you can do throughout the week. Let us know what you think about the book.

As well as the reading focus from the National Oaks Academy lessons and BBC Bitesize, there are also some reading comprehension tasks that you could also do. Below you will find a text on Greece. Decide whether you would like to do Clouds, Moons or Stars. Read the text and then answer the questions in your exercise book. Answers have been provided so that you can check. Remember to read the questions carefully.

Fiction Express

Remember to continue to access the Fiction Express website. Chapter 3 is now live from the following books: The Pampered Prince or The Last Guardian or even Cosmo Mars and the Vanishing Woman. Try out the quizzes and the online activities. Identify and find out the meanings of any ‘amazing’ vocabulary that you discover whilst reading. It’s great to see that some of you are enjoying reading the David Macphail text My Gran is a Werewolf.

Spellings

For spellings this week, read through each sentence and identify the word which has been spelt incorrectly and then correct it. Afterwards, look through the answer sheet and check to see if you have identified all the misspelt words correctly. If you are looking for a further challenge then have a go on the Spelling Crossword. There is also a wordsearch too.

Art & Design

Computing

Algorithms & Debugging

For Computing this week, we would like you to go to the BBC Bitesize website and learn all about algorithms and debugging. You will watch two videos which will then be followed by three activities. Click on the link below.

Creative Curriculum

POWer Projects

For the next couple of weeks, we would like to set you some POWer Projects – based on the Vikings. Click on the POWer Project link below and you will discover a number of activities that you can do. For example, you can create a Viking longboat. Or if you are feeling that fashionable, creative flair, why not dress up as a Viking and take a photo. Then provide some information on the clothing. Remember to complete one of your choices per week. We look forward to you sharing these 🙂

MFL – Spanish

Saying Your Birthday In Spanish

In this lesson, you will recap on numbers and the alphabet, as well as saying your name and age in Spanish. It will then expand your number knowledge to learn the numbers up to 31 and the months of the year in Spanish, so that you can say the date of your birthday in Spanish! For this lesson you will need some paper and a pen or pencil.

Microsoft Teams

We thought we would update you with some changes. This week, we are going to be moving forward using Microsoft Teams, which is a website/app that allows instant messaging. This can be accessed via computer, tablet or mobile. The purpose of this is so that your child can communicate with their teachers and discuss the work they have been set. They may wish to ask questions if they’re stuck or seek further guidance with the set task.

Your child will be able to access a private chat facility which will allow them to send messages to the class email address, accessed by their class teacher or another teacher from Year 3. It will not be possible for your child to chat to other members of their class, as it is a facility to support their learning. Once the children are using the chat feature, there is an expectation that they follow the online safety rules and behave appropriately and will not be able to create their own groups. Inappropriate use/language/behaviour means that they can be muted on the chat for a week. This will ensure that this chat is used for the intended purpose, to support your child in their home learning.

We would really like this to be accessed by our Year 3 children only, not parents, so if parents have a question about the work, please continue to use our class email addresses to contact us.

Your child’s teacher will be online 10am-12pm Monday-Friday. After 12pm the chat feature will be closed, but they can still email their teacher as before as we will still be used these email accounts to respond to your child’s work.

The link to access is https://www.office.com/ . Once you are on this website, follow the link to Microsoft Teams. Your teacher will be contacting you via phone to give you your child’s username and password.
