National School Sport Week 20th -26th June

How do you fancy challenging friends, family or neighbours to some fun, virtual sporting activities?

At national children’s charity, the Youth Sport Trust, we are determined to ensure that young people stay active and connected through this difficult time. We’ve been helping families do this with our daily #StayHomeStayActive activities since March and now we’re challenging the public to go one step further by joining us in our first ever National School Sport Week at Home, supercharged by Sky Sports.

Coundon Primary School is preparing to join the Youth Sport Trust and Sky Sports to help young people and families up and down the country engage in a week of virtual sporting challenges.

With young people set to miss out on their main school sport day this summer, the Youth Sport Trust is taking its annual National School Sport Week campaign beyond the school gates to parents and families – reinvented as National School Sport Week at Home.

Taking place from 20-26 June, the week will give families, communities, schools and sports clubs the opportunity to take part in a series of virtual sporting challenges which help young people capture the enjoyment, competition and camaraderie they may be missing out on and the Youth Sport Trust is delighted that Sky Sports will be helping to supercharge the campaign.

Those with children that are staying home: All that you need to do to take part is follow the activities found in this PowerPoint, make a note of the scores that you get and send a copy off to your child’s class teacher.

Those with children that are in school: Your children will be carrying out the set activities in school within their Bubble. If they are home for part of the week, then they can continue their challenge at home.

If you would like further activities to join in with, take a look at this:

We hope you all enjoy taking part, Mrs Gray and Miss Perrett x

Well done 1DG!

Well done to the children in 1DG that have continued to send us some of their lovely Home Learning work during the second part of the Summer Term! We’ve seen some lovely work from Ayla, Layla, Penny, Gene and Maddie.

I’d like to give a special mention to Maddie for this beautiful Impressionism painting of a Hot Air Balloon. It is a gorgeous piece of art work that she should be incredibly proud of.

Microsoft Teams

Over the last few days, it has been great to speak to so many over the phone. However what we have realised is that not all of you have been able to access ‘Teams’ to keep in touch with your teachers and friends from year five. Below is a reminder about how to access it. Remember it is open every weekday from 10-12 so please log in to say ‘Hello’
Please also send us emails to show us your work. Each week we would like to create a showcase on the blog of a selection of activities and work that you have completed through the week…

You will need to go to www.office.com and use the email address and password that you have been given. (If you do not have this please ask an adult to email your class teacher.)
When you sign in for the first time you will be asked to change your password. Make this unique and something that you will be able to remember. (Note: Always keeps your passwords secret.)
Once you have signed in you will should see a welcome sign. You will now be able to send an email to your class teacher using one of the email addresses below. The settings on your account means that you can only send emails to your teachers and only receive emails from your teachers.
You will also be able to access a wide range of on-line applications, such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint. These may help you to complete future work.
You will also be able to see a symbol that says ‘Teams’. This is the application that we can use to help to keep in touch. You can log in and post messages to the groups / channels / teams that you have been assigned to.

STARS OF THE WEEK! Week Beginning: 8.6.20

With more and more of you sending in work and photographs of all your hard work, it is becoming increasingly difficult to choose our STARS OF THE WEEK! We are so impressed with all your effort and dedication and would like to take this opportunity to say a MASSIVE WELL DONE to you all! Keep up the fantastic work Year 2, you are all amazing!

The children that particularly impressed us last week were Qasim B (2AD) for doing an exceptional amount of work in all subjects to a high standard and Maesie L (2RM) for always completing her work to a really high standard too. There are two children chosen this week from 2AS: Alex D for his great Maths work and Bella G for a super mind map of Queen Victoria and her excellent Use of ICT to record her Science work! Well done!

If anyone else has completed a piece of work that they are particularly proud of, email it across to your teacher. We love to find out what you have been up and what you have enjoyed doing. We will do our best to post them onto the Blog for you.

Week beginning 15th June

Hello Reception. Some fantastic work produced this week- well done everyone!

We would like you to continue with the phonics scheme this week.

Miss Plimmer’s, Miss Warsop’s and Mrs Hollingsworth’s groups should carry on with the Reception learning for the week beginning 25th May.

Miss Jones’ and Mrs Johnson’s groups should follow the learning to blend tab for the 25th May.

Mrs Towner’s group should follow the Year 1 tab for the 25th May.

For those who want an extra phase 5 activity have a go at the workbook below in your journals.

We urge you to continue reading with your child and have included the Oxford reading link below. Reading just 10 minutes each day really will help your child progress and is extremely valuable!

This week’s book for maths is ‘Princess mirror Belle’ . There are some lovely activities all about 3D shapes and sorting. We have added the link for the story on youtube too.

For our wider curriculum this week we would like you to look at recycling. Lot’s of you are out and about and may have noticed busy areas getting a bit messy! This would be a good opportunity to do some litter picking and talk about how we look after our environment. We have attached ‘The messy Magpie’ story on Youtube and also included some recycling activities to have a look at.

Keep up all the hard work and please continue to send us your photos via email. Have a good week- The Reception team.
